As I shared a few weeks ago in Saving My Life, apparently I have limits. š Unfortunately, I think that means I canāt keep up the January pace of publishing two things on Substack a week. For now. Maybe Iāll alternate, although (clearly) these last couple weekends I didnāt hit āPublishā on either one. š¤·āāļø
Tea Iām Drinking
Irish Breakfast this morning at home, some English Breakfast at church, and hot apple cider this afternoon. The above is the apple cider, along with someone who also wanted some. I didnāt give her any. Meanest mama.
What Iām Reading
Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson! Third in the Skyward series! Which has nothing to do with crafting, but itās really good and you should read it anyway! š š Ack now I need it back from the libraryā¦
āYes, a dinosaur. I mean, Iād never seen one before, but this thing was reptilian, walked on two legs, and had a long tail trailing behind it. Yeah, the eyes appeared to be on its shoulders, and its āneckā was long like a trunk and ended in a toothy mouth. So maybe āenormous demonic anteaterā would have been a better description. But Iām going with dinosaur.
ā¦
āIt was just about the most incredible entrance Iād ever seen. Why hadnāt I ever been able to ride a dinosaur into combat, then dismount with a flourish?ā
I mean. š I do love Spensa so. And M-Bot. And Doomslug.
Oh! And then I started reading The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas by Alison Lumbatis, and then she tells you to pin or Google things you like, and to look for commonalities. I admit I was kind of rolling my eyes at the book at the beginning. But after I started looking online for outfits, I was like, āOh yeah! Clothes can be pretty! This is so fun!ā
I started pinning, and at first I made the board private, but then I was like, āWhat am I doing? I love this stuff! Letās share it!ā So hereās that, click for lots and lots of dresses, some formal, some casual, some vintage. And occasionally a beautiful sweater or something. And some beautiful coats. (Linda Marveng knitting patterns. And Xiaolizi on Etsy or at shopxiaolizi.com. I recommend.)
Other than the heels on the boots (I mean, I like them aesthetically, but not in practice), I love this outfit. Sweater and AMAZING dress. (Seriously, look at all the submitted pictures of the dress on Ravelry. It looks great on everyone.)
I have learned from this that I lean towards a classic style, with just a touch of bohemian. (Also apparently I have a thing for āmother of the brideā dresses? I wutā¦) And I tried shopping my closet to wear the original outfit formula in The Ultimate Book of Outfit Formulas, tweaking just a bit for what I had.
And this exact cowl is on sale in my shop! The one item currently in the shop! \o/ š
Whatās on My Spinning Wheel
Still November Magic, for now. I have a few batches of yarn I need to wet finish, weāll see what I make after that. Maybe more yarn for the project below.
Whatās on My Needles
I'm gonna try to knit that poncho for my oldest daughter that she requested, like, a year ago, probably? Eh, *maybe* just last summerā¦ And what was I calling this yarn? Oh, Violet Clouds, thatās right.
Okay, feels like there have been a lot of mistakes to fix and yarn to detangle (and detangle and detangleāand sometimes to untangle, just to change things up), but slowly Iām getting somewhere. Itās getting better. This is the bottom edge of half of it.
Maybe later a swatch for a stole. That would be niceā¦ Okay, definitely. I had the yarn I was going to try for it, or I'd almost finished the yarn, but then I went to Cannon Beach, and there was a yarn store, and I think I touched almost everythingā¦ Eventually I chose a couple skeins, and Iām using them.
Oh, and I have a crochet bag on my crochet hook. Well, of course itās a crochet bag if itās on my crochet hook. Sorry, Iāve gotten so used to thinking of that particular project as āthe crochet bag.ā And my daughter informs me ācrochetā is (or was?) French for āhook,ā so I guess it must be the hook bag on my hook hook. š Anyway, I need to wet finish some more alpaca yarn to keep going with that bag, too. Marcy! Go do it!
Felt Comfort Shop News
Iām running a sale! 40% off, like I said, all one item in the store!! š Youāre the first to know, other than maybe a few people who have happened to stop by!
Which also reminds me, I was going to try to get more pictures of āBlessed are those who MOURNā in natural light. Mmm. And get it listed.
My Life Outside of the Felt Comfort Shop
I need to do lots more transcription practice. Ergh. I mean, I donāt mind the practice itself at all. Itās just this whole āIām a mortal and I have limitsā thing. Boo. š
What Else Iām Writing
Sunday a few weeks ago I wrote the novel (Not literally. In case you were wondering.), āLimits and Sons of God.ā Like I said, if Iām committed to transcription and transcription practice, I may have to give up some other things, given that I have limits. (More about that next week, in Saving My Life?) Shoot.
Your Turn
How about you, what are you working on? Are you bumping up against any limits? Do you find that you donāt finish projects unless you only work on a couple things at a time, or does it not matter?
Happy Weekend!
Marcy
